Success looks different to everyone whether it is to own a successful business, to get fit at the gym, or earning a certain salary. Founder of 2MPower and Blisspot expert, Anne McKeown reverse-engineered her journey to success and put together 10 essential steps to success. Check them out!
Step 1: Desire It
When it comes to desiring success, you really need to ask yourself what you truly desire and want when it comes to gaining that success! Do you want to start that side hustle? Do you want to be able to run a marathon? How bad do you want it? This is the first step in the ten steps to ensuring it is done seamlessly, and every step of the way you know WHY you are doing it and exactly how you are going to get there.
Step 2: Imagine It
Let your imagination run free! Visualising and imagining exactly what you want can get the ball rolling and really push you to work really hard for it. What will the journey look like to get there? When you reach your goal what will that look like? Think about how it will feel when you finish that marathon or how it will feel when you make your first sale!
Step 3: Sense It
Our 5 senses really do so much work to transfer messages up to our brain. The more we can add senses to the particular desire, the more it is highlighted. Can you see it? Can you hear it? Can you touch it? How does it make you feel? The most important idea is visualising – then including all the other senses will really add to that.
Step 4: Believe it
Believing your goal is going to lead to success is often the hardest step to achieve. Do you often think, how am I meant to believe that I can really have what it is that I want? This is ultimately a mindset shift. If you don’t believe in yourself, why would anyone else? You want the brain to see that positive mindset shift and this will be an asset when it comes to the last 6 steps.
Step 5: Plan it
If you haven’t got a plan to achieve your goal, it is going to be particularly tricky to get to that goal. This goes along with most goals and aims in life, right? You don’t want to get distracted or bounce from this to that. Having a set plan leads you in the right direction more so than if you have no plan and go in blind. Often, following along with something that someone else has done before you is great. This could be a meal plan, fitness plan or a business success plan, for example, from someone who has gained success before you.
Step 6: Action it
Once you have that plan, you have to action it. Anne said, “Nothing changes if you change nothing”. Take massive imperfect action. Even if it’s just a small step in the right direction, it is going to propel you forward somehow. Maybe add 10 minutes to your workout routine or eat that bit more protein than normal!
Step 7: Track it
Tracking your progress is essential for a whole multitude of reasons! Tracking helps to keep you accountable, motivated and excited to continue on your journey to your goal. Tracking your progress feeds that positivity to the mind to keep you going. Whether it is tracking calories, your exercise routine or your business successes.
Step 8: Affirm it
Affirmations are great at providing yourself with emotional support and encouragement. It is always great to hear it from others, but often providing yourself with positive affirmations can be even more powerful. Saying out loud to yourself your goal, such as ‘I am going to lose 5kg’ can help to cement it in the mind. Letting others know too will assist in gaining that support to make it even more achievable. If you are aiming to lose weight and you tell your partner, this could assist them in helping you. This could be by not offering you take away or alcohol, for example.
Step 9: Achieve it
Your success and goals can be achieved if you stick on the path. We often don’t provide ourselves with the right amount of time, support and help, so allow yourself all of this in abundance. Maybe you get a personal trainer or start seeing a nutritionist and do so in a realistic time frame to avoid disappointment. Success takes time if you really want to achieve it. Remember the saying, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ or ‘good things take time.’
Step 10: Own it
You’ve made it! Recognise your success and be proud of yourself and all you have achieved. If you have lost weight or built out your muscle, own it and enjoy it. Buy that dress you’ve always wanted to wear or enter that marathon. Self-sabotage can often appear when we achieve the goal and are shocked. Know in yourself that you have worked hard for this success and you deserve to be happy and celebrate just how far you have come.
We had the pleasure of sitting down with the founder of 2MPower, Anne McKeown about all things mindset, goal setting, and positive thinking recently.
After working as a Sales Coach at BP Oil, Anne discovered that ultimately it was never about the product that made sales, but about the salesperson’s mindset. Her employees were successful when their beliefs and mindset were aligned and were overall, positive. This prompted Anne to find out more, including developing these 10 essential steps to success.
