This year’s Mother’s Day might look a little different for many people. You might be hearing, ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ via FaceTime or it might be a much smaller get-together than the usual extended family bash. But this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your day with your loved ones.
We’ve collated some of our top ideas as to how to celebrate the day – isolation style! Just send through this blog to your loved ones for a little hint, hint, nudge…
Explore your local area
Heading out for a walk with the family in your local area is always a good idea! It gets you outside exercising and enjoying each others company. What a combo. Why not go on a walk you haven’t done before? Or get a coffee from that new cafe down the street?
Feast on a big brunch
Get everyone into the kitchen (except you, of course) and enjoy a gorgeous spread of all the best breaky foods – bacon and eggs, french toast, smashed avo, waffles, smoothie bowls, pancakes – the list is endless, really! Whether it be breakfast in bed or a feast around the table with the family, bonding over food is always fun! Why not pop in a mimosa along with your coffee while we’re at it?
DIY Day Spa
Mother’s Day is a day to be spoilt and treated with love and kindness! So why not ask for your present to be a luxurious DIY day spa? How about a facial, or a manicure? Follow this up with a relaxing bath with your favourite book, a few scented candles, some choc and a tea (or vino) for some much deserved Mum time. Ok, ok – we’ll stop tantalising you! Sounds pretty fabulous right?
Get crafty
Why not try out one of the many skills that everyone is discovering their love for in isolation? Get those creative juices flowing and have a day full of craft! The options are endless – painting, candle making, pottery or maybe a bit of gardening? You might find that there are some secret talents in the family. You can find all sorts of equipment and crafty goodness from Officeworks, Kmart, Big W or art stores. Fingers crossed there are some left!
Game night
Get competitive with the whole family and pull out some of your favourite board games and enjoy a whole lot of fun and laughs as you battle it out in Monopoly, Uno, Trivial Pursuit or maybe Cluedo! Or why not get the family to create a Trivia everyone can play! You can even get the extended relos involved, via Zoom or House Party!
Bake up a storm
Google some recipes of your favourite goodies and get creative in the kitchen, baking up some sweet treats! Share the fun with the whole family and create a spread of beautiful baked goods. Why not try some banana bread, scones and cake and have a delicious high tea with all your creations? What a perfect afternoon!
Cocktail Competition
Or why not get everyone (18+, of course) involved in a cocktail making competition! You might get some real doozies, but you might discover your new favourite! Margaritas, daiquiris, cosmo’s… keep them coming!
Movie night
Set up the lounge with all of your comfiest cushions and blankets, as well as the popcorn and choccies to end an awesome day with a good old movie night! Find a family favourite on Netflix and get everyone all snuggled up to enjoy a night in the home cinema.
