We spend such a significant time of our lives at home relaxing, sleeping, cooking, eating and just existing. Heading home at the end of the day to a place that promotes a feeling of self-care and wellness can really create a positive mental and physical state of health and be exactly what we need after a long day. Here are 8 simple ways that you can make yourself a self-care haven at home.
Sniff, sniff
Candles and diffusers are such a relaxing treat to add to any home. Whether it is in the kitchen, the bathroom or your bedroom, make your house smell and look beautiful with a few candles and diffusers scattered around. Finding your favourite scent is always fun, and the gorgeous essential oils used in diffusers can really help in promoting a sense of calm. Some oils are known to help with particular things, including lavender, which is thought to help with sleeping and eucalyptus or peppermint, being helpful in uplifting and energising. Many diffusers also include lovely lighting and sounds that add to the ambience.
Go green
Adding greenery to your space not only purifies the air around the room but is just aesthetically clean and fresh to look at. There are plenty of plants that don’t require too much work to keep them alive and well. Some of our favourites are the Fiddle Leaf, Peace Lily or Rubber Plants. Plants are even known to boost productivity and concentration – perfect if you are working or studying from home!
Treat yourself
Jumping into the bath or shower and treating yourself with delicious smelling and rejuvenating products for your hair and skin is the perfect pick me up any day of the week. You will feel good and look good too. Maybe even finish it off with a face mask!
Play that funky music
Pop on some of your favourite playlists whilst at home cooking, cleaning or just lounging around for the easiest and most fun way to enhance that mood. Adding in a few moves is always encouraged too, of course. Keep that speaker blearing!
Light it up
Lighting is always such an affordable and stunning way to make a space feel that little bit more cosy, romantic and peaceful. Whether it is particular lamps, fairy lights or adding a dimmer to your main lights, switching it up can really change the mood.
Marie Kondo your house
Spend an afternoon de-cluttering those drawers or wardrobe that you have been putting off doing for months. It really is one of the most satisfying and cleansing feelings to gift or donate certain things that no longer serve you and finish up with a clearer space than when you started.
Keep up that routine
Keeping up routines is extremely grounding and allows for yourself to feel balanced and consistent. Creating and maintaining healthy habits is key! Whether it is a morning or nighttime routine to pump you up or settle you down, having a routine can lessen stress and anxiety and boost productivity and rest time.
Here is an example of a great, simple and healthy morning routine:
- When you wake up, aim to leave your phone alone until you are out of bed
- Shower and get changed
- Drink a big glass of water
- Head out for a walk or to the gym
- Enjoy a nutritious and delicious breakfast
- Write down your to-do list for the day
- Enjoy your day!
