When the sun sets on Sunday, it sometimes takes your joy with it. That’s because the impending weekly grind is looming a little bit closer. We refer to this pre-Monday blues as the ‘Smondays’.
If the thought of the week triggers dread and a rotten mood, then you’ve got yourself an unwelcome case of the smondays. Yuck.
Rather than getting absorbed in manic Monday early, rescue your mind (and the rest of your weekend) by indulging in a relaxing bedtime ritual instead.
Skip your hasty skeddadle to sleep by planning to go to bed an hour earlier. Giving yourself time to wind down before you hit-the-hay means you’re more likely to sleep like a baby and wake up refreshed for the day ahead.
Goodnight technology
Start by saying goodnight to buzzy stimuli like your phone, TV and other screens before lights out. If you need to have your phone in your room for an alarm, make sure it’s on silent and pop it face down somewhere away from your bed. This will also force you to peel yourself away from your doona to turn it off the next morning. Bonus!
Turn the lights down low
Next, dim the lights by burning a candle or swapping from overheads to lamps for a more tranquil setting. Hop into your comfiest pyjamas and get your at home pamper on!
We like to use this time to slowly moisturize from head-to-toe, brush our hair, pop on under eye cream and do some relaxing stretches before retiring into bed with a good book.
Top tip: lavender is widely used to assist with sleep because of the oil’s soothing properties. It is found in a wide range of products such as pillow sprays, bath oils, moisturizers and even a range of baby products for mothers (or anyone) with sensitive skin.
This mellow Sunday evening routine is the best way to finish your weekend, and will have you rested and ready to take on your week with supple limbs blazing!
What is Self-Care Sunday? It’s your weekly reminder to treat yourself, slow down and make sure you’re taking extra special care of number one. Because the first step to long-lasting weight loss is self-love!
