“Before Dubbo resident Annette “Netty” Webber started her weight loss journey she hated herself.
Ms Webber joined the Downsizing Dubbo campaign alongside mayor Ben Shields.
Cr Shields launched the eight-week campaign, inviting community members to join him in a weight loss journey, after he heard 80 per cent of the Dubbo population was classified as either overweight or obese.
Since completing the eight-week program with SuperFastDiet, which explores three methods including intermittent fasting, Ms Webber has lost a total of 13.5 kilograms.
She said it had ‘changed her life.”
“Losing weight was always something I wanted to do. A couple of years ago I had surgery to get a tummy tuck and after I got really sick. I had a total of seven surgeries,” Ms Webber said.
Upon starting SuperFastDiet, Ms Netty weighed 98.8 kilograms and said she was always depressed, anxious and tired.
“Before I lost the weight I struggled even getting my shoes on and doing them up. It used to take me so long. I was eating myself to death and I hated how I looked,” she said.
When I started the journey I wanted to do it for myself. I had to commit to the change. I still have bad days when I feel anxious or depressed, but I’m mentally stronger now. I don’t mind so much how I look and I can wear nice clothes now. I even dress up sometimes now.”
Ms Webber said shortly after her journey she was informed she had a lump in her throat that was potentially cancerous and will undergo surgery in the next few weeks to have it removed.
“With all the support I receive from the SuperFastDiet girls and my friends and family I am able to cope with this news,” she said. “It’s just another battle. I will fight through it.”
Ms Webber said despite her surgery, she will conquer her next weight loss goal which is to get down to 75 kilograms by May 2020, where she will be appearing on Australia’s Today Show for the second time.
Ms Webber appeared on the Today Show late last year alongside fellow resident Marcus Hanney, who also lost 13kg through SuperFastDiet to discuss their weight experience.
“I’m also working on creating a low carbohydrate cookbook and am in the process of creating a Facebook support page, with the help of the mayor, for people over 50. People seem to forget about the older people, so I want to create the group to offer them support, even if they just want someone to talk to because they’re lonely,” she said.
Mrs Webber said Cr Shields had been a “wonderful support” throughout her journey, even offering to support her Facebook page.
“He has been awesome, and he also lost a significant amount of weight himself,” she said.”
