Positive habits aren’t always easy to create, but they can do absolute wonders for all areas of your life! During your busy schedule and all the things that life throws your way, it’s important to work on habits that build to a happier, healthier and more fabulous you. Here are some easy and fun habits you can adopt to turn your life around and work towards being the best version of yourself – both mentally and physically.
Open the Door
Get outdoors and go for a walk, run or ride. This can be a very easy element to add into your new daily routine. A big tip? Don’t even think about it. Put on your runners, open the door and head outside. You’re out there now, may as well keep going! Extra bonus – taking in vitamin D from the sun’s rays has incredible benefits to your immune system! Just make sure you don’t overdo it – sunscreen is your friend.
Make Soups
You can pack a big whack of nutrition in soups and we have some awesome recipes in our library, like our Chicken Curry Noodle Soup or what about a low-cal Tomato & Butter Bean Soup. As always, a simple and very practical way to get that immunity boost is by emptying out your vegetable drawer. Chop and chuck the lot into a pot of boiling water with stock and a couple of cloves of garlic. Add in a whole chicken if you can – the bones in the broth will boost the nutrition even more!
Shake It
Keep those shakes coming! The blender can still be your best friend in lockdown and you can add in some immunity-building superfoods while you’re at it. Here’s a great example from our library, such as this immunity-boosting, delicious Green Apple Cinnamon Smoothie. And while you’re at it…
Pump the Good Vibes
Putting on loud, upbeat music nearly always inspires some dancing about, and right now it’s a great idea to turn your kitchen into a groove zone. Whenever you cook, move too. It’s an extra calorie burner and you may as well seeing as you’re in there cooking anyway. Besides, it’s fun!
Switch Off
It’s important to stay informed about the world but for your own mental health, you do need to balance seriousness and concern with fun and light relief. Laughter and enjoyment release positive chemicals into your body and that helps boost your immune system so do things you enjoy every day. A great rule of thumb is to think back to when you were a kid and what you liked doing to alleviate boredom, not just plugged in time but playtime.
Board games and cards, mucking around with a ball in the back yard, baking, reading, building, and crafting. All of these would be best shared with others to increase your socialization time and connect with loved ones. Enjoy every moment that you can – it’s good for your body and your mind.
Practice gratitude
It may be overdone, but we don’t think a good thing can be preached too much! Practicing gratitude is one of the absolute best habits you can start for yourself on a regular basis to ground you and help you appreciate the every day, even if it feels like everything is a little grey. Harvard Health Publishing stated that ‘in positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness.’ Simply write down or say out loud 3 things you are grateful for, for an immediate mood boost.
